SEBI / TRAI Directions and Guidelines for Commercial Communications

Guidelines to Combat Fraud and Enhance Investor Protection in the Securities Market

In an effort to enhance investor protection and curb financial fraud, SEBI has advised its regulated/registered entities to comply with the guidelines by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). Specifically, all regulated/registered entities are advised to only use the ‘1600’ phone number series exclusively for service and transactional voice calls to their existing customers and 140 series for promotional voice calls to their existing or prospective customers. In accordance with terms of the guidelines/directives issued by the TRAI, SEBI regulated entities including Mutual Funds and Asset Management Companies are required to follow specific number series for investor communication. These measures aim to help investors easily identify genuine calls from regulated financial institutions and reduce the risk of fraudulent activities.
