As per the Government of India mandate (under Prevention of Money Laundering Rules, 2005), it is now mandatory to link your Aadhaar and PAN to your mutual fund folio.
What is Aadhaar?
Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number issued by the Indian government. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is responsible for managing Aadhaar numbers and Aadhaar identification cards.
Why should I provide my Aadhaar details?
As per Gazette issued by the Ministry of Finance, investors are now required to submit their Aadhaar number issued by the UIDAI. Click here to view the notification.
Is Aadhaar information required for all holders?
Yes, Aadhaar information is required for all holders (First Holder, Joint Holders, Guardian (in case of Minors), and Power of Attorney (POA) Holders, Donors (in case of Children’s schemes).
With respect to HUF, what is the requirement?
For HUF, Aadhaar information of Karta is required.
How do I update my Aadhaar details?

What do if I don’t have an Aadhaar?
You must apply for an Aadhaar by visiting any authorized Aadhaar Enrolment Centre.
I have applied for an Aadhaar card but not yet received it.
Proof of enrolment for Aadhaar can be submitted. However, in such cases, the Aadhaar number shall be required to be provided for eventual authentication within the timeframe of 6 months from the date of submission of the proof of enrolment for Aadhaar, failing which the account / folio shall cease to be operational.
I am an NRI. Is it mandatory for me to update my Aadhaar number?
No. As per existing UIDAI requirements, NRIs are not eligible to enroll for Aadhaar. Hence, NRIs are not required to submit Aadhaar information or ‘proof of applied for Aadhaar’. If you have already enrolled and have a valid Aadhaar Number, you can link your Aadhaar to your folios.
What about Non-individual investors?
Non-individual investors have to submit the Aadhaar number of their authorized signatory/ies. All the authorised signatories will have to submit their Aadhaar alongwith the duly signed form. Click here to download the form.
What is the difference between Aadhaar ‘provided’ & ‘seeded’?
Merely, providing Aadhaar Number / Aadhaar Card is not sufficient. The Aadhaar Number needs to be authenticated with UIDAI. Once authenticated, the same is “seeded” in the folios held by the investor in all AMCs services by the CAMS.
Is it a one-time activity?
The investors have to submit their Aadhaar at CAMS or at any of the CAMS serviced AMCs. Once this is done, Aadhaar will be updated for all AMCs serviced by CAMS.
How safe are my Aadhaar details?
We will authenticate the Aadhaar details in accordance with the Aadhaar Act, 2016. We shall receive your demographic information which shall be used only to comply with applicable laws/rules/regulations.
How will I know that my Aadhaar has been successfully updated?
Once your Aadhaar is successfully authenticated and updated in our records, you will receive a sms/email intimating you of the same. The same will also reflect in your account statement.
I have different email ids registered with different AMCs. On which email id will I receive the confirmation?
Confirmation email will be sent on the email id registered in the respective folios.
